How easy is it to transfer to another state and work as a paramedic?
for example, working in portland, maine and transferring with the same company to santa cruz, california?

It depends on the individual state's requirements. Most states accept the National Registry test results but a few have their own testing. If you have taken the National Registry Test, and the state you are transferring to accepts the results, then it's pretty easy. There might be some more specific state requirements such as BTLS or PALS certification that you may need to get done, but that's about it. If the state you are leaving or moving to does not accept National Registry Results, then you will have to take whichever test the state you are moving to accepts. You might have to bring proof of your paramedic class completion. Just check online, do a Google search for "State of California EMS". That should bring up the State EMS website, where you can check to see the exact requirements. You also might want to check with your company. I'm sure they won't transfer you to a state that you couldn't get certified in. One other thing: Some states require an associates degree to work as a paramedic. You might want to check to see if that is needed. Good luck!
